Welcome to the ANU Griffins

A community AFL club established in 1961 bringing diverse Canberra students and non-students together across a Men's Seniors and Reserves and Women's team.

Our story

The Australian National University Australian Rules Football Club (ANUAFC) was established in 1961. In 2001, the club extended its membership when it fielded a women’s team for the first time. The club currently fields three teams, a senior and reserve men’s teams in the AFL Canberra Community Competition. The ANUAFC aims to provide a safe and friendly environment for student and non-students to learn the game of Australian Rules Football whilst representing the Australian National University.

South Oval

South Oval, our home ground, is on Ngunnawal land in ANU campus and  has been the Griffin’s home ground since the clubs inception. The history of the oval and area is older, with the land thought to have been managed and cleared by First Nations people for hunting. The ANU Griffins celebrate and acknowledge this connection during our Indigenous Round each season, wearing our Indigenous jersey’s designed by Ngunnawal artists, Richie Allen and Richard Allen Jr.
